The BiSCoP CTP leverages partnerships that span industry and academia at the forefront of the field to create an inclusive, collaborative environment for high-quality doctoral training that will prepare 48 PhD students with the knowledge and skills they need to lead the industry in translating research into sustainable consumer products that have economic and societal impact, both in the UK and globally.

Research projects will be available in the following areas:

Industrial Microbiology

Industrial microbiology involves harnessing the metabolic activities of microorganisms to produce commercially relevant enzymes and fine chemicals to deliver sustainable and cost-effective solutions for product manufacturing and waste materials treatment.

Microbiology

By understanding the characteristics and behaviors of microorganisms, microbiologists strive to prevent and treat infectious diseases, improve industrial processes, enhance food safety, improve agricultural practices, and unravel the complexities of microbial ecosystems.

Technology Development

With rapidly evolving technologies, such as genetic engineering, synthetic biology, and high-throughput screening, industrial biotechnology can optimize and streamline production processes, enhance product
quality, and reduce costs.

Synthetic biology

Synthetic biology allows for the design and optimization of microbial strains for enhanced production of valuable compounds, such as biofuels, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals. It enables the creation of synthetic enzymes and metabolic pathways to enhance the efficiency and specificity of bioprocesses.
